Sitka’s COVID case rate bounced back up Wednesday with eight new cases added to the dashboard.
The uptick in cases took the case rate to 258.12 as of Wednesday, up from 164.26 the day before.
The case rate is the number of cases in a week adjusted for 100,000 population. The 22 cases in the last seven days included 21 residents and one nonresident.
The number of cumulative resident cases is 1,044; and the cumulative nonresident cases is 96.
The state Department of Health and Social Services says 5,841 of Sitka residents (79.09 percent) are fully vaccinated, and 6,192 (83.84 percent) are partially vaccinated.
The case rate had been going down steadily for the past three weeks, but popped up following Wednesday’s eight resident and one nonresident positive tests.
Sitka remains in the “high” alert range, since any rate of 100 or higher is considered high.
Most of the state is in the high range, with a case rate of 788.2. The state weekly report said 26 boroughs and census areas are at the high alert level; two areas are at the substantial alert level – Prince of Wales Island –and Skagway/Haines (case rates of 50-99.99); no areas are at the moderate alert level (10-49.99); and no areas are at the low alert level (0-9.99).
