With 42 cases reported within the past seven days, Sitka’s COVID case rate dropped over the weekend.
Sitka’s rate through Sunday stood at 492.78 as adjusted for cases per 100,000 population. That’s down from Friday’s rate of 563.18, on the city dashboard.
Four cases were added on Friday, four on Saturday, and two on Sunday. Some days with high numbers of new cases were dropped off the one-week timeline for case rates, including two 11-case days.
Sitka remained firmly on “high” alert, which applies to seven-day rates above 100.
The community vaccination rate is at 83.47 percent (6,164) for those partially vaccinated, and 84.64 (6,251) for those fully vaccinated.
The Centers for Disease Control reports that Alaska’s current case rate per capita, 785 per 100,000 population, is the highest in the nation, ahead of second place West Virginia at 752.
Also, Alaska’s deaths per 100,000 population took an upward surge over the past week, which state officials said may be caused in part by a delay in compiling figures, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
The CDC figures show Alaska’s seven day statewide 7.9 deaths per 100,000 over the past week is second only to West Virginia, reporting 8.5 deaths per 100,000.
