Before heading north for the state championships, the Sitka High drama, debate and forensics team is offering the community a look at some of their performances.

Tonight’s showcase starts at 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Audience members will see some of the team’s entries in the categories of duo, duet, readers theater, humorous interpretation, humorous interpretation, duo interpretation and speaking events.

The state meet opens Thursday and runs through Saturday, at East Anchorage High School. It’s hosted by the UAA Seawolf debate program.

The Wolves team has multiple state titles in the drama, debate, forensics and overall “sweepstakes” categories for their division, and are hoping for additional successes this weekend both as a team and individually. A total of 15 SHS students plan to compete.

Coaches Christian Litten and Amy Ainslie said tonight’s show will let the community see what the kids have been working on since the season began last fall. Seniors will be recognized as well.

Tonight’s event is free but donations will be accepted there, and through the donations portal for DDF on the Sitka High website. The team has a goal of raising $10,000 to cover costs from the season.
