Sitka’s COVID Numbers Ease Over the Weekend

Case numbers came down a bit over the weekend and the COVID rate took a steep drop on Sitka’s dashboard.

Nine new positive tests were reported for Friday, five for Saturday and 10 for Sunday, bringing the seven-day total to 118 and the rate per 100,000 down to 1,384, down from Friday’s 1,889 tally.

Sitka’s cases-per-day hit a new record just before the weekend, with 54 cases posted for Thursday. In the last two weeks the community has had a number of days with 20 or more cases.

Sitka’s rate of vaccination has remained about the same for the age 5 and up group, with 82.5 percent having received one shot or more, 87.5 percent fully vaccinated, and 42 percent with a booster.

The age 12 through 18 crowd has among the highest vaccination rate in the state, with 92 percent with 1+ dose and 86.2 percent fully vaccinated. Yukon-Koyukuk is at 94.4 percent with 1+ dose and 85.4 percent fully vaccinated; Aleutians East has 92.4 percent with 1+ dose and 90.1 percent fully vaccinated.
