With two positive COVID cases added to the city dashboard Tuesday, Sitka’s daily case rate rose to 2.21 average cases per day.
Sitka has been on “red” or “high alert” since early November, when the 14-day rolling average went above 1. It has been on the decline since late November and early December, to 1.79, but rose slightly again this week. Eleven active cases were listed on the dashboard, which was updated 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The tests returned Tuesday were a woman age 30-39, tested Dec. 19, whose contact tracing is in process; and a symptomatic girl, 0-9, whose transmission classification was “secondary.” Her contact tracing is completed.
The dashboard lists 239 cumulative resident cases, and 22 nonresidents. Of the 261 cumulative cases for both groups, 250 are “recovered.” It also lists cumulative hospitalizations at 5.
Results are pending for 202 tests. Of the 41,111 tests performed, 40,909 results have been received. Of the 263 positive results, 241 are “unique positive” results, and the negative result total is 40,646.
In a new post on the city’s COVID website today, Fire Chief Craig Warren sent a holiday message to the public:
“With the holidays coming up, I’d like to say that everyone in Sitka has been doing so well supporting each other through this difficult time. We are practicing social distancing, limiting our time in group gatherings, and wearing masks around others. If we continue taking these steps to look out for our community, I have no doubt we will start to see fewer cases and start the new year off right. Thank you and Happy Holidays!”
