A second town hall meeting on the future of the former Sitka Community Hospital building and land is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in Harrigan Centennial Hall.

Sitkans can weigh in at the meeting, or on a public opinion survey available online or in a printed survey available at city hall.

City Administrator John Leach facilitated the first meeting March 16, which included a number of questions including whether to sell the building and property and what the possible uses would be.

SEARHC asked last year to purchase the old hospital building and adjacent properties, which the Native-owned nonprofit currently uses to provide outpatient, long-term care and rehabilitation services.

SEARHC already owns other parcels, at 200 Brady Street, and at 814, 810 and 802 Halibut Point Road.

The properties up for discussion include 209 Moller Drive, 202 and 204 Brady Street, and 302 Gavan Street.

Sitkans can listen to the meeting remotely from cityofsitka.com, or participate remotely by registering at:

Leach said the survey results so far have shown opinions to be “fairly split” on the future of the hospital properties.

“Constructive comments would be very helpful to our Assembly in deciding how to move forward,” he said today. “Comments about past history and potential bidders detract from the goal of the town halls.”
