Two more candidates have submitted letters of interest and paperwork for appointment to a vacant seat on the Assembly, bringing the total to four.

They are Benjamin Miyasato, a former Assembly member; and Sitka High School teacher Timothy Pike.

The deadline for applicants was noon today. Others who have applied are former Assembly member Richard Wein, who ran in the October 4 election, and Carol Voisin, who is a member of the city Sustainability Commission.

The vacancy was created Oct. 11 when the Assembly accepted the resignation of Dave Miller, who had two years left in his term of office. The person the Assembly names to fill the vacancy will serve until the 2023 municipal election.

The appointment is on the agenda of Tuesday’s Assembly meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at Harrigan Centennial Hall.

“We’ll consider each candidate on their own merits and at the end of the day we’ll make the appointment, or call a special meeting,” Mayor Steven Eisenbeisz said.

In the Oct. 4 election Thor Christianson and Chris Ystad won the race for the two vacant Assembly seats.  Steven Eisenbeisz was re-elected mayor. They were sworn in at the Assembly meeting Oct. 11.
