Woman’s Body Found in Harbor

The body of a Sitka woman was found floating in Eliason Harbor this morning, police said.

She was identified as Amanda Oktoyak, 37, who had been staying on a boat on harbor float 8, near where her body was found, police said.

An investigation is underway, police said, and foul play is not suspected.

A man who was checking boats in the harbor spotted the body and called police around 9:30 a.m. Police and emergenmcy responders from the
Sitka Fire Department responded, and by 11:30 a.m. divers and other emergency workers had retrieved the body from the water, police said.

Police said Oktoyak had been seen on the boat Tuesday night, later as she was leaving the boat. Her mother and brother were notified of her death, police said.
