David Charles Hill Sr.
David Charles Hill Sr., a longtime Sitka resident, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2022, at the SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center, with his family surrounding him. He was 90 years old.
David was born on Feb. 5, 1932, in Rattudan, New York, to David and Olive Hill.
He served his country in the Korean War with the 13th Field Artillery battalion 24th Infantry division. He received the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
Shortly after his honorable discharge as a corporal from the Army, in 1952, David moved to Sitka. There, he met and in 1959 married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Liz) Marks. The couple had four children, Olive, Frank, Mark and David Jr.
As a longtime resident of Alaska, Dave worked as a logger throughout Southeast, later becoming a commercial fisherman, then longshoreman for Southeast Stevedoring and Foss Alaska.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friend Wayne Richter, and raising his four children. But what made the twinkle in his eyes and big smile on his face was his beloved wife, Liz.
David was preceded in death by his parents, David T. Hill, and John and Olive Sobieski; his wife Elizabeth Hill; his son Mark Hill; and two grandsons, David Karles and Jacob Hill.

He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews from his wife Elizabeth Hill’s family, including the families of the late Mary Marks, Selina Wrenn and Emily Williams.
Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Richter, Ricky Richter, Bill Tow, Steven Hill, Aaron Wrenn, Rico Mulligan, Brandon Hill, Jason Hill, Darrell Stewart and Frank Burkhart, Trenton Hammock and James Lysons

A celebration of his life will be held later.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Michael’s Cathedral renovation project or to the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.
