Robin Emmens
Robin Emmens was born May 26, 1945, in Medford, Oregon, to Robert Gabel Emmens and Justine Miller Emmens, and spent her early years in Southern Oregon.
Robin’s father’s career as an Air Force officer later took the family abroad. Having served as a co-pilot in the 1942 Doolittle Raid and survived internment in the Soviet Union, he became a military attache and intelligence officer, living with his family for several years in Austria, Romania, and Japan.
Robin attended Southern Oregon University and completed graduate studies at the University of Oregon. She worked for many years as a counselor and social worker and was passionate about supporting those in recovery.
Robin is survived by her daughter Amelia and Amelia’s partner Carter, her granddaughter, Hazel, and Amelia’s father Jeff Budd. She was preceded in death by her parents Justine and Robert, her older brother Tommy, and her dear friend Deanna Moore.
Robin was an active member of the Sitka Pioneer Home and St. Peter’s by the Sea Episcopal Church. She especially enjoyed live music, trivia, and other community events. She had a great interest in politics, participating in Weather Underground and Black Panther activities as a young adult, and supporting progressive causes throughout her life.
Robin passed away in her sleep at the Sitka Pioneer Home on the evening of February 18, 2025. Robin will be missed by her family, friends, Pioneer Home community, and her church family from St. Peter’s by the Sea. A service will be held at the Sitka Pioneer Home Chapel on Wednesday, March 12th, at 10:00am. Memorial donations may be made to Friends of Sitka Animal Shelter or Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest.
